About Shawn
Shawn Snyder, a recent Harvard graduate (with a degree in Religion), has
opted to make the most out of his diploma by pursuing a career as a
singer-songwriter. Now twenty-two years old, Shawn has been playing the guitar
from the age of five and writing music since he was thirteen. Only in the past
three years, however, with the mentorship of folk musician Livingston Taylor,
has Shawn upped the ante on his musical endeavors, bringing his songs beyond his
bedroom walls and to the thus-far receptive ears of others in coffee shops, on
the street, at music fetivals, and in clubs (most notably, the legendary
Cambridge folk venue Club Passim).
While writing for Let's Go Travel Guides in San Francisco during the summer of
'02, Shawn fortuitously stumbled upon two producers, who have since helped to
pave the road for Shawn's passions. Moved by his music at a local open mic, the
two insisted upon getting him into the studio before he returned to the east
coast. In just two days, at The Plant in Sausalito, Shawn laid down the initial
tracks for what is to be his upcoming debut album, "Karma in a Can". Over a
year's worth of production work with talented back-up musicians (including
drummer Dave Krusen, of Pearl Jam "Ten" fame) has yielded a promising product.
Leaving his East Coast roots behind, Shawn has made the official
post-college move to San Francisco to start anew, grass-roots, ground-up style.
In addition to a number of solo-acoustic bookings on the local coffehouse
circuit, he's recently fused with his band for the first time live, playing
larger gigs for a growing West Coast fan base in both San
Francisco and LA.
Shawn considers among his influences the likes of James Taylor,
Paul Simon, Lyle Lovett, Martin Sexton, Louden Wainwright (father of Rufus), and
John Gorka. His original acoustic folk-rock is lyric-driven, with an organic
simplicity, utmost sincerity, and unmistakable groove.
